Welcome to your official Trezor wallet setup guide. This walkthrough will help you set up your Trezor hardware wallet from the ground up. Whether you're using the Trezor Model One or Trezor Model T, this guide ensures your device is configured safely, securely, and correctly.
1. Unbox and Inspect Your Trezor
When your Trezor wallet arrives, inspect the packaging for any tampering. Each box should include:
Your Trezor hardware wallet
USB cable for connection
Recovery seed cards (blank)
Instructional booklet
Optional stickers or accessories
If anything looks suspicious, stop and contact support. Your security begins with a trusted, untampered device.
2. Connect Your Device
Plug your Trezor into a USB port on your computer. Your device screen will prompt you to begin the setup process. On your computer, open the official Trezor Suite app or install it if you haven’t already.
Connect your device to your computer via USB
Open Trezor Suite
Follow the prompts to begin device setup
3. Install Firmware
New Trezor devices come without firmware installed. This ensures you install the latest version directly. The Trezor Suite will guide you through this process.
Click "Install Firmware"
Wait for the installation to complete
Device will restart and prompt you to continue setup
Note: Never disconnect your device during firmware installation.
4. Create a New Wallet
Once firmware is installed, you'll be asked to create a new wallet or recover an existing one. Choose "Create new wallet" to generate your private keys.
Your Trezor will now show your recovery seed.
Write down the 12 or 24 words in exact order on the provided seed card
Double-check the words and spelling
Confirm you’ve written it down by re-entering a few randomly selected words
Warning: Your recovery seed is your backup. Do not take photos or store it online.
5. Set Your PIN
Next, you’ll be prompted to create a PIN for your device. This PIN protects your wallet in case someone gets physical access to it.
Use the number matrix shown on your device screen to set your PIN
Enter the PIN again to confirm
Make sure you choose a PIN you can remember but that is difficult to guess
You’ll now be redirected to your wallet dashboard in Trezor Suite.
6. Add Accounts & Receive Funds
Inside Trezor Suite, you can add wallets for different cryptocurrencies. Trezor supports hundreds of coins and tokens.
Click on "Add Account" to begin tracking a crypto asset
Use "Receive" to generate a receiving address
Always verify the address on your Trezor screen before sharing it
7. Sending Cryptocurrency
To send crypto:
Select the coin and account from Trezor Suite
Click "Send", enter the destination address and amount
Verify and approve the transaction using your Trezor device
Tip: Always verify all details on the Trezor screen before confirming. Never trust only your computer screen.
8. Keep Your Wallet Secure
Store your recovery seed in a fireproof, waterproof location
Never type your seed on a computer or phone
Update firmware and Trezor Suite regularly
Enable passphrase protection for advanced security (optional)
Use only trusted computers and avoid public Wi-Fi when managing assets
